Bursary Information


SOFTBALL BRANDON BURSARIES

Softball Brandon Inc. will annually present bursaries to up to three (3) athletes, coaches, or umpires who demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship and dedication to softball within the Softball Brandon organization.

Each bursary is valued at $250.

Applicant Criteria:

1. Residency:

Must be a resident of Manitoba.

2. Membership:

Must be a registered player or coach with Softball Brandon, or an umpire for the current year or within the two (2) years prior to the bursary award year.

Minimum of 2 years of involvement with Softball Brandon is required.

3. Education:

Must be:

o Attending post-secondary education for the first time, or

o Currently enrolled in a post-secondary school to achieve a degree or diploma.

Proof of full-time enrollment is required (copy of most recent transcript must be submitted).

4. Softball Ability or Dedication:

Must demonstrate a high level of softball ability or dedication to umpiring.

5. Sportsmanship:

Must exhibit exemplary sportsmanship and dedication to the sport of softball.

6. References:

Application must include one (1) or more letters of reference from someone familiar with your softball activities, OR a recent teacher, principal, or employer.

7. Deadline:

Completed applications and reference letters must be received by Softball Brandon no later than June 30th.

Selection & Award Process:

· All applications submitted by the deadline will be reviewed by the Softball Brandon Board.

· Softball Brandon reserves the right to cancel or recover any bursary if eligibility conditions are not met.

· Bursaries will be presented at a time determined by Softball Brandon, before the end of the calendar year.

o Dates attended

o Graduation date (or expected graduation date)


Softball Involvement:

Describe your softball achievements over the past three years in Manitoba (e.g., provincial/national teams, elite clubs, awards, college teams, etc.).


Academic Achievements:

List academic accomplishments (e.g., bursaries, awards, honors, advanced courses) from the past three years.

Discuss the importance of academics to a student-athlete, and share your future academic and softball goals.


Contributions to Softball:

Describe your dedication to the sport (e.g., leadership, teamwork, involvement in provincial programs, mentoring, etc.).

Explain what you believe is the essence of sportsmanship, and how you have demonstrated it in your softball journey.


Community Involvement:

Describe your community contributions outside of softball.

References:

Reference letters should include:

· Name, address, phone number

· Relationship to applicant

· Duration of acquaintance

· Explanation of why they believe you deserve the bursary
